How does the Osolian government work?

The Osolian government works to build a prosperous community, adopting and executing laws.

There are two primary branches of government: the Assembly and the executive.

The Assembly

The Assembly is the legislature. You're part of it - every Osolian is an equal, voting member, choosing which laws we will all abide by.

All laws begin in the Assembly (as "bills") and are passed entirely by the Assembly. Only the Assembly has the authority to enact laws.

The leader of the Assembly, the Speaker, is elected along with the Chief in a general election, held every two months. The Speaker runs the operations of the Assembly, arranging votes and meetings and maintaining records.

The executive

The executive is led by the Chief, who is elected along with the Speaker in the general election. It also consists of the Chief's advisors (the Chief's Council), who are tasked with dealing with specific matters of the state. For example, the Department of Infrastructure is created by the Chief and is led by the Director of Infrastructure, whose job it is to plan, build, and maintain Osolian public works.

The executive's primary job is to execute the laws and decisions passed by the Assembly.

Local executives

Each Osolian city has its own mini-Chief, called a mayor. Mayors are nominated by the Chief and are confirmed by the Assembly.

The mayor is in charge of local matters, making sure local issues are addressed immediately.

Whenever the position of mayor of a city is vacant, the Chief steps in as the acting mayor.
