How does voting work in Osolia
In Osolia, a general election is held every 2 months to choose the Chief, who presides over the Executive branch of the Osolian Government, and the Speaker, who is the voice of the people in the legislative branch.
Elections are always held on the 15th of all evenly numbered months (February, April, June, etc.). Following precedent, voting closes 48 hours later, on the 17th.
Candidacy opens on the 1st of all voting months and closes when voting begins.
Voting system
Osolian elections employ instant runoff voting. That means you'll need to rank the candidates in order of your preference for them, starting from 1 being your most preferred candidate, 2 being your 2nd most preferred candidate, etc, all the way down.
You don't need to rank every candidate, however, if you don't want to.
When results are calculated, if your first-choice candidate is eliminated due to not having received enough votes, your second choice will be counted as a vote for that person, and the votes will be recounted until a majority of votes remaining (>50%) are for one candidate.
