How to create secondary/alternative accounts on Osolia Social
Rules on secondary/alternative accounts
Secondary or "alt" accounts are allowed on Osolia Social, but must follow a few rules:
- Cannot be the only account of a person. They should first create a personal account.
- They cannot impersonate any real-life person, government, or other organization inside or outside of Osolia.
How to create a secondary account
Follow the same steps listed in this article, but with these changes:
- You must specify a reason for wanting to create the secondary account in the "reason for signup" box at the end of signup, such as wanting it for your business, creating a "gimmick" account, etc.
- You must use a different email from your primary account, per Mastodon's rules. If you only own one email address, you can use the following trick:
Plus addressing
Plus addressing is a feature found in most modern email services, such as Gmail, that allows you to create a unique email address that is an extension of your already-existing email.
For example, if your email address is example@gmail.com
, you can add example+alt@gmail.com
to create a new account using that email address. Any emails that are sent to that address are sent to your already-existing example@gmail.com
email address.
You can put whatever name you want after the +
sign and before the @
symbol, provided that it is alphanumeric.
