Style guide

This page serves as guidance for government officials publishing on my.osolia.

General principles

When writing on my.osolia as a representative of the Chiefdom, it's important to be effective with your communication.

  • Be concise
  • Avoid needlessly obtuse language; simplify
  • Avoid excessive capitalization
  • Use American English

Referring to Osolians

Use "Osolians" in place of "citizens," "residents," or "players," unless the distinction is legally significant.

Markdown rules

Headings in your pages should start at level 2 (##).

Abbreviations

On first occurrence, spell out the full phrase and include the abbreviation in parentheses. In later usage, you can simply use the abbreviation.

Emphasis

You can use bold and italics sparingly and when necessary.

Referring to worlds

Use roman numerals, i.e. "Osolia I" and "Osolia II."

Referring to terms

Use roman numerals, e.g. "term X" or "term VII."

Referring to laws

It's not necessary to cite the legal identifier (i.e. "Osolian law no. A/B"). Simply refer to laws by their short titles.

Laws should be hyperlinked to their text.

As lex.osolia is still under implementation, the link should point to the law in the Chiefdom of Osolia Google Drive.

Avoid referring to specific clauses or providing detailed explanations for the legal basis of a text. Summarize the law and tailor it to the reader's needs.

Dates

In general, follow this example: "3 August 2025."

Passive voice

In general, you should avoid writing in the passive voice.
